Do I have to change ownership of a horse when I buy it?
Do I have to change ownership of a horse when I buy it?
Key rule: When you buy a horse, you must notify
the Passport Issuing Organisation (PIO) within 30 days so the passport and
central records show the new owner’s details. Failing to do so is an
offence. [gov.uk]
You must have the paper passport updated by the PIO
and ensure the Central Equine Database (CED) also reflects the new
owner. Many PIOs update both the passport and their database and then push
changes to the CED. Owners can also view and manage records via Digital
Stable (Equine Register). [gov.uk],

It’s strongly recommended you claim your horse on the
Digital Stable so your details on the CED are current (free owner
verification and updates for many fields). This complements, not replaces, the
PIO process. [equineregister.co.uk],
