1) What does this cover include? 

Our vet fee cover pays necessary veterinary treatment when your horse suffers an accidental external visible injury (AEVI)—such as cuts, lacerations, puncture wounds, abrasions, or other visible trauma caused by an accident.

  • Annual policy that you can renew each year. 

  • No upper age limit: horses of any age can be covered for AEVI. 

  • Covers diagnostics and treatment directly related to the AEVI. 

 

2) What counts as an “accidental external visible injury”? 

An AEVI is a sudden, unforeseen accident that results in a visible injury on the outside of the horse. Examples: 

  • Cuts from wire or fencing 

  • Kick injuries with visible swelling or open wounds 

  • Road or field accidents resulting in abrasions or lacerations 

  • Splinters or puncture wounds 

 

3) What’s covered? 

  • Veterinary consultation fees for the AEVI 

  • Diagnostics (X‑rays, ultrasound) related to the AEVI 

  • Treatment: suturing, wound care, medications, bandaging, pain relief, antibiotics 

  • Follow‑up visits and dressing changes for the same AEVI 

 

4) What isn’t covered? 

  • Illnesses or internal conditions (e.g., colic, laminitis) 

  • Degenerative or chronic conditions not caused by an accident 

  • Pre‑existing injuries or conditions 

  • Routine care (vaccinations, dentistry, farriery) 

5) Is there a waiting period? 

Yes, a low 24‑hour exclusion period applies from the start date before claims are eligible. 

6) Are there claim limits? 

Yes, the annual claim limit is up to £1,500 or £3,000 per year for AEVI depending on which limit you chose at the time. 

7) Is there an excess? 

Yes, an excess of £165 per claim applies. 

8) Does my horse’s age matter? 

There is no upper age limit for AEVI cover—older horses remain eligible at renewal. 

9) How do renewals work? 

Your policy runs for 12 months and is automatically annually renewableAs long as you have valid payment details your AEVI cover, continues regardless of your horse’s age.
